Tips for planning new kitchen countertops
A great result starts before the stone arrives. Here are a few tips we share with every client.
Remodel or new build?
In a remodel, we can remove old tops and template once cabinets are ready. For new construction, on the other hand, we work around your builder schedule. Either way, cabinets must be level and secure.
Plan seams with the pattern
Long runs and big islands may need a seam. Therefore, we plan seam spots with you and match them to the grain. That way, the pattern flows across the joint.
Think about overhangs
Seating needs knee room. For example, a typical bar overhang is about 10 to 12 inches. Larger overhangs may need hidden supports, and we will flag that early.
Care after install
Granite and quartzite need a simple reseal now and then, while quartz never does. For general stone care tips, the Natural Stone Institute is a helpful source.
Kitchen countertops across Southern California
We install kitchen counters from Los Angeles to San Diego, including the Inland Empire and Temecula Valley.
Kitchen countertops questions
What is the best material for kitchen countertops?
It depends on how you cook. Granite handles heat very well and every slab is unique. Quartz never needs sealing and stays very even in color. We help you choose at your free estimate.
How much do new kitchen countertops cost?
Installed granite starts around $45 per square foot, and quartz starts around $55. However, edges, cutouts and backsplash change the total. See the cost guide.
Can you add a waterfall edge to my island?
Yes. A waterfall carries the stone down the side of the island. We plan the cut so the pattern flows around the corner.
Do I need my sink before you template?
Yes, please. We cut openings to the exact sink and cooktop you choose. So have the models on site or the spec sheets ready.
How long will my kitchen be out of use?
Most kitchens are installed in one day. After that, your plumber can reconnect the sink, and you can use the counters that evening.
Do you remove old kitchen countertops?
Yes. Removal and haul-away are available and listed on your written quote.
How to keep a kitchen project on budget
First, decide on your must-haves, such as an island or a full backsplash. Then let us show you slabs that fit that plan.
In addition, simple edges cost less than ornate ones. For example, an eased edge looks clean and modern at a lower price.
Also, fewer seams and cutouts mean less shop time. Therefore, a simple layout often saves real money.
However, do not skimp on the base. Because stone is heavy, cabinets must be solid and level.
Finally, compare full installed prices, not just the slab. As a result, you avoid surprise fees later.
